Portstewart Win Inter Club Winter League Finals
On Sunday 20th March, the Portstewart Winter League Team defeated teams from Clandeboye and Lisburn Golf Clubs to win the Winter League Claret Jug for only the second time.
The team of eight players returned a combined total of 291 points averaging 36 points per player. This was a tremendous team effort and ensured that they defeated their nearest rival Lisburn G.C. by twenty points.
Best score of the day came from Portstewart player John Medhurst playing off a twelve handicap he returned 42 stableford points. Best gross came from Steven Shaw of Lisburn G.C. who got round in 71 shots playing off a five handicap.
Next year the Finals return to Lisburn where we hope that Portstewart can retain the Cup.

Congratulations to our Fred Daly Team on defeating Bushfoot G.C. in their first round match.
The team of Eoin Canning, Vincent Cooley, Seamus Donaghy, Alexander Jamieson, Conor Lundy, Colm Lynch and Luke Millar won 4 and 1 at home and then also won two and a half matches at Bushfoot.
Good Luck to Captain Kyle Millar and his team on the next round.

Ulster Cup
Our Ulster Cup Team were drawn against Shandon Golf Club and they travelled to Belfast on Sunday 10th April for the Away Leg.
Unfortunately the team found the conditions very different from Portstewart and the results reflected this. Portstewart players battled hard and five of the seven matches went to the 16th hole or beyond. The final outcome was a disappointing seven nil defeat and the team have certainly an uphill struggle on the return leg. This will take place on Sunday 17th April at Portstewart Strand Course.
A big vote of thanks to the players, caddies and the very few loyal supporters who travelled to Belfast. Hopefully members will turn out in force to support Danny Alexander and his team in the Home Fixture.

The first competition of 2016 for the ILGU Senior Women’s Golf Society -Ulster Branch was held at the RIVERSIDE COURSE , PORTSTEWART Golf Club on Monday 11th April 2016 with 148 ladies taking part in a three ball Waltz competition.
Representatives from the ILGU Senior Women’s golf Society presented the prizes & The winning team were from PORTSTEWART GOLF CLUB
Team members – Irene Murray, Susan Anderson and Pat Joyce – With 83 points
Runners-up team were also from PORTSTEWART GOLF CLUB
Team members – Pauline Agnew, Hazel Browne and Doreen Fleming – With 77 points
Third and Fourth places went to Donaghadee and Malone teams both with 75 points

Ulster Cup Team
Ulster Cup Team who played Shandon Park on Sunday at Portstewart.
Team lost but gave a great account of themselves as they were up in Four Matches and All Square in two when they were “called in”. Unfortunately they lost heavily at Shandon and it was just “a bridge too far” in the home leg.

Team News – May 2016
Congratulations to Dessie Ballentine and the Senior Cup team on a tremendous result at Portsalon on Sunday last. The team of Stephen Garrett, Adam Brown, Davy Barber and Declan Lafferty qualified second and now play Rosapenna at Portsalon on Sunday 26th June.
Well done on a great result!
Congratulations also to Adrian McNeice and his Joe Carr Team. Tailing 4-1 down to Castlerock on the away leg they won 5-0 at home. They now face the winners of County Antrim in the next round.
The Junior Cup Team captained by Paul Christie will be in Strabane this weekend trying to qualify and follow in the footsteps of the Senior Cup Team. So good luck to them and all support would be greatly appreciated. Tee off 11.00AM.
